Antique Clocks & Barometers.
The customer wanted us to create a website that would automate the process of displaying their Antique Clocks & Barometers online.
We created a secure database driven CMS website, where the customer can easily upload the text and images of their products.
The CMS system creates pages with semantic URLs, and because the urls are based on product and category titles which usually contain important keywords, this can be beneficial for search engine listings.
The website search applies rules to order the most relevant results first.
Mailing list subscribers receive an automated signup email with a confirmation link, which inaccordance with other good antispam measures, such as including optout links in all emails, helps maintain whitelist status.
We created a self-updating XML Sitemap Page. This keeps search engines (inc. Google) informed when pages are added or modified. It provides hints for web crawlers to do a better job of crawling the site.
The website has a liquid layout, which is most notable in the category pages where multiple products are displayed. The number of product thumbnail columns will automatically increase or decrease to fit the current screen size.
This website is a pure text (with XHTML semantics) CSS controlled design, which benefits search engines, bandwidth, and people with disabilities (running text browsers/speech readers).
We used PHP as our Server-Side Scripting Language with a MySQL Database, enabling us to deliver a dynamic website, Content Management System (CMS), and automated Mailing List System.
